Missouri Career Centers Tout Innovative Training Solution

Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development (DWD) will employ state-of-the-art training technology to upgrade the skills of Missouri job seekers and workforce professionals in its 42 One-Stop Career Centers beginning in October.

The Standard Industry Skills Training and Educational Media (SISTEM™) product, developed by Alchemy Systems L.P. is an interactive, competency-based training that allows the department to offer streamlined, consistent training to customers and staff while allowing for local customization. Initially, the standardized content will include a basic job readiness workshop to include resume writing, job search techniques, soft skills, financial literacy, customer service as well as modules designed specifically to raise the competencies of workforce staff. Future content is expected to include customized business and industry modules.

“At a time when skill development is so critical to the competitiveness of our workforce and businesses, we are pleased to offer training in a way that is cost-effective and relevant to the needs of our workforce and the staff that provide employment and training services,” said DWD director Rod Nunn. “This system is high-tech and high-touch since it is instructor-led with participant interaction and a remediation component to ensure courses are completed,” Nunn
added.

The modules are available in both English and Spanish and can be delivered to up to 32 people at a time. Selected courses will be available through the internet and are made up of individual modules designed to be completed in about 15 minutes. Cost-effectiveness is one of the benefits of the system—each hour of digital training is equal to about four hours of classroom training. Likewise, a 15-minute module of Alchemy equates to an hour of traditional classroom training.

“Missouri Career Centers will be able to offer instructor-led training (workshops and seminars), workshop registration, and tracking online through the same system,” said Nunn. “This will allow the state’s workforce development system to manage our training and professional development needs through one online learning management system which is accessible through the Internet.”

Alchemy’s Learning Management System (LMS) was designed by professionals in the fields of high technology, training, and education, including experts in the field of cognitive learning. It’s a comprehensive Professional Development Management System and Web-based Training delivery vehicle with a rich set of features for participants, course authors, supervisors, and system administrators.

Alchemy Systems is a Texas-based firm founded in 2003 as a partner company of Alchemy Studios, Ltd., a digital media production company that has been in business since 1996 creating multimedia applications for the education, training, and entertainment markets.
